The name Haka comes from the verb "hakketmek" — to carve, engrave or incise a figure or text into hard surfaces such as stone, metal, ivory and wood. The craftsman who does this is called a "hakkâk"; the root is the Arabic "hakk" (to scratch, to carve). Last-making is, at its core, exactly this: working the measure of the foot into the material.
Once, every last was shaped by hand, with patience; the master's eye and hand translated the measurement into the language of the foot, and wood took form as it was carved piece by piece. This craft was passed down not in writing but from master to apprentice — by watching, by doing, over years.
Haka's roots reach back to the 1890s, to Aram Usta, one of Turkey's finest last makers. His knowledge passed to his son Agop Canmelkonyan, and from him to his apprentice Rıdvan Tekinalp. They worked side by side for many years and became partners; after Agop Usta's passing, Rıdvan Usta carried the workshop on and, with a mastery matured over thousands of lasts, gave Haka the identity it carries today.
Today, with the fourth generation, Haka brings a century of handcraft together with 3D scanning, CNC and AI-assisted modeling.
A shoe last is the foot-shaped form a shoe is built over: it defines the shoe's internal volume, size and fit. The more precise the last, the more consistent the sizing and comfort. HAKA has been making shoe lasts since 1894.
Every variation on the order form: lasts with or without size plates, slip lasts, hinged and spring-hinged lasts, lasts with toe or heel irons, and toe-separated lasts — for sport, classic, kids and fashion footwear.
Three steps: (1) model development with experienced last makers and AI-assisted design, (2) sample production and approval — single or pair, revised if needed, (3) CNC series production within ±0.1 mm. Orders can be tracked in real time in the customer portal.
